Bone Broth Cleanse

Oh, the holidays! A time for family, friends, relaxing, rejoicing, and for FOOD.

I LOVE food, and I didn't restrict myself too much this holiday season, enjoying an array of glutenous delicacies, some alcoholic delights, and more sugary-laden treats than usual. No regrets.

Yes, I am bloated, yes, my digestion and energy levels have been compromised, and yes, my clothes are feeling less comfortable than usual.

To kick off the New Year, I will be hitting the re-set button by doing a simple, but very effective bone broth cleanse to give my body the time it needs to restore, remineralize, repopulate micro-biome, metabolize stored fat, re-energize and recharge.

Why a Broth Cleanse?

Bone broth is well known for it's healing properties, including improving digestion and reducing symptoms of Chron's, colitis, IBS, allergies and autoimmune disease.  It's super soothing to the GI tract, containing the amino acid L-glutamine, which is used to heal and seal the mucosal lining of the gut, helping to prevent leaky gut. It is amazing for the immune system, and an excellent source of protein, nutrients, minerals, electrolytes, collagen and gelatin to help us look and feel our very best!

BONE BROTH CLEANSE HOW TO:

This cleanse is suitable for just about anyone, and can be modified to reach your personal goals. If you are unsure if this cleanse is right for you, please talk to your health-care practitioner.

1) Choose either a strict bone broth cleanse for a minimum of 24 hours, to a maximum of 72 hours OR a modified bone broth cleanse for a minimum of 3 days, up to 7, or longer, depending on how you're feeling

2) Avoid all sugar, packaged/processed foods, starches, caffeine and alcohol

3) Drink 4-12 cups of organic bone broth per day. Use bones made from healthy, organic-fed animals– broth made will only be as nutrient dense as the bones used to make your broth.

For a strict bone broth cleanse, you will be avoiding solids, drinking only bone broth and water. Anywhere from 6 to 12 cups of broth over a 24 hour period, up to a maximum of 72 hours.

For an intermittent, or modified bone broth cleanse, you will be replacing your regular breakfast, lunch and snacks with broth, and eating a paleo style dinner of protein, vegetables, and healthy fats, such as chicken or fish with sautéed veggies, cooked in grass-fed butter or coconut oil.

DO:

-Drink broth until you are satiated

-Eat nutrient-rich foods
-Eat healthy fats, such as organic cold-pressed oils, coconut oil, and grass-fed butter, or ghee, adding these into your broth as needed

-Spruce up your broths with things such as garlic, ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, herbs, lemon, sea salt, Himalayan salt, and pepper

-For continued digestive support, drink at least one cup of bone broth per day after you've finished your chosen cleanse

DON'T:

-Worry or stress about what your capabilities are in doing this cleanse! If you can only make it through breakfast without solid food, that's okay! A small intermittent fasting break will still help clear out yuckies— Doing something is always better than doing nothing :)

Avoid doing a broth cleanse of you are:

-Underweight

-Pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or nursing

-Have a history of disordered eating

-Have low blood sugar

-Have a heart condition

-Are following an intense exercise program

Happy clearing out the old to make room for the extravagant, renewed, restored, vibrant and revitalized!!!
