The Most Nutritive Baby Food!
Share
Ok you guys. This is something that I am so SO passionate about! Nourishing our babes!
I can't think of a better way to nurture our littles than giving them the best possible start with beautiful, nutrient-dense super foods! Bone broth is the perfect first food for baby to help build and support all of their rapidly growing tissues of the body, including the very delicate lining of the gut, which by the way, is only one cell thick by the time babies are usually ready for solids.
We know that gut health is E V E R Y T H I N G. We know that a healthy gut helps to support the immune system, that it determines whether we digest, absorb and assimilate nutrients effectively, that the microbiome of the gut is affected by the integrity of our digestive mucosal linings, that allergies, food sensitivities, autoimmune disease and inflammation in the body can stem from a compromised gut, that 90%– YES, NINETY PER CENT of serotonin is made in the gut, which will determine the outcome of our mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, and memory.
I have to admit that being an entrepreneur and working mom made me super fearful of what making all of my own baby food would look like in terms of time... but guess what... it turns out that it in fact takes minutes, and further more, it's one of the most joyful moments of my week! Mindfully pulling gorgeous ingredients from my fridge and freezer to create food that I know is positively impacting the health and well-being of my baby on a cellular level gets me JACKED!
Please remember to use fresh, local and organic ingredients whenever possible :)
Here are some of my favourite bone broth baby food recipes!
EAT YOUR GREENS
-2 apples or pears, peeled, and cut into big chunks *note- you may wish to leave the skins on, depending on your baby's personal eating advancements
-4 medium sized zucchini, cut into big chunks
-3 huge handfuls of greens- Use spinach, swiss chard, kale, a power blend, or any combination of greens
-1/4 cup (4TBSP) of virgin, cold-pressed organic coconut oil
-4 cubes of frozen spirulina
-High-Vibe Organic bone broth of your choice, thawed for thinning out puree
Either use a steamer to steam fruit and zucchini, or add to a pan with a bit of bone broth and a lid. Steam/cook for 10 minutes.
Add greens to steamer/pan and cook for 1 more minute.
Allow fruit and veg cool slightly before adding to your high-powered blender along with coconut oil & spirulina, and blend!
Add more bone broth as needed to thin out puree to desired consistency.
SQUASH PUREE
-1 medium squash - whatever looks amazing at your local market! I love butternut– yes I partake in the eating of my baby's food– But I most recently picked up a kabocha which was super Yum!
-1/4 cup (4 TBSP) of virgin, cold-pressed organic coconut oil
-High-Vibe Organic bone broth bag of your choice, thawed, for thinning out puree
Remove guts & seeds & Cook squash on a sheet pan until fork tender.
Allow squash to cool slightly before adding to your high-powered blender along with coconut oil & 1 cup of High-Vibe Organic bone broth, and blend, adding in more broth as needed to reach desired consistency.
I usually keep enough fresh food in a container for 5 days, and then pour the remainder into silicon ice cube trays or small glass containers for another day!
Guess what. You can also simply add warmed organic bone broth to your baby's bottle and let them sip away!
